Meilleur Site De Rencontre Cougar Non Payant.
21 I'm mostly with Borachio so far. Warpus is a walking naturalistic fallacy. Which is ironic, given the context of this thread. 22 Do you not see a certain irony in accusing Borachio of appeals to emotion, and then offering as your only counter-argument what is as far as I can tell the equivalent of "yeah well if you hate america why dont you just move to iran"? Which part of my response was an appeal to emotion though? The "walk around with your pants down" part was meant to illustrate the sexual signals part of my argument. "Walk around with your pants down and you will have a more unstable community, on average, especially if you're talking about "dawn of man" times when cooperation between tribe members was vital. Obviously we are way past any of that in terms of why we wear clothing today; I am merely pointing at the potential evolutionary benefits to clothes when we first started wearing them Warpus is a walking naturalistic fallacy. Which is ironic, given the context of this thread. My argument might be a naturalistic fallacy if I was trying to imply that it's more moral or good or whatever to cover up our bits. A naturalistic fallacy is basically the "what is natural is moral, what is not natural is immoral" argument. I am saying nothing of the sort.. 23 The overwhelming majority of people aren't Welsh. Therefore, the Welsh do not exist, and anyone claiming to be Welsh is either an irrelevant savage or a contemptible deviant. Well it's like when you say a few pre-stone tribes practiced a crude version of communism and argue thats a vindication for the infantile belief that communism could work in a society greater then about 50 people. Even in a nation of 50 million people. Anyway your analogy is completely flawed and doesn't even mirror anything i claimed. I just said just because a few stone age tribes do something doesn't mean thats the best way to organise society or that their bizarre social practices are a legitimate reason for flaunting your junk around town. 24 It's kind of revealing that junk» is a word for male genitals in english. 25 My argument might be a naturalistic fallacy if I was trying to imply that it's more moral or good or whatever to cover up our bits. A naturalistic fallacy is basically the "what is natural is moral, what is not natural is immoral" argument. I am saying nothing of the sort.. It's not necessarily about morality, though it often is. It's just about making a normative statement based on a positive one. You're justifying public decency laws as they are now a normative statement based on evolutionary evidence positive statements. "We evolved to wear clothes, therefore we should wear clothes", is basically what you're saying. 26 Not in the UK - i'm just appealing to an american audience, but i feel it's better to use then "dick" and i want to avoid any use of proper academic words like "genitalia" or "penis" - junk makes the image in your mind even more harsher but doesn't bring the discussion down to "dick". Thank you for listening to my nonsense. 27 It's not necessarily about morality, though it often is. It's just about making a normative statement based on a positive one. "We evolved to wear clothes, therefore we should wear clothes", is basically what you're saying. No, I'm saying "We evolved to wear clothes, that's why we wear clothes" It's an attempt to explain, not justify or endorse. 28 Did my intial post appear to imply that I was saying "We should wear clothes! We evolved into it!" or something? Cause no.. ... I just made some connections with a book I recently read about early human development and made an observation as to why we might be so predisposed to covering up our bits 29 It's kind of revealing that junk» is a word for male genitals in english. It goes with "box" for the female genitals. Because you put your junk in it. Have fun with that chicken-egg paradox. 30 Not in the UK - i'm just appealing to an american audience, but i feel it's better to use then "dick" and i want to avoid any use of proper academic words like "genitalia" or "penis" - junk makes the image in your mind even more harsher but doesn't bring the discussion down to "dick". Thank you for listening to my nonsense. Yes, I was wondering about that. I thought it was a bit strange that you as a Briton used that expression. 31 No, I'm saying "We evolved to wear clothes, that's why we wear clothes" It's an attempt to explain, not justify or endorse. I see, fair enough. I may as well state my factual disagreement then. I'm struggling to see how we "evolved" to wear clothes, rather than it being a cultural adaptation. Cultures that wore clothes may well have survived and prospered at the expense of those who didn't, and those cultures may have ingrained the idea that wearing clothes was good into their cultural identity. That's not evolution though - that's just cultural selection bias. I don't think this has anything to do with evolution, frankly. I don't think we evolved with the innate ability to fashion clothes out of the skins of lions or whatever. 32 Well it's like when you say a few pre-stone tribes practiced a crude version of communism and argue thats a vindication for the infantile belief that communism could work in a society greater then about 50 people. Even in a nation of 50 million people. You've misconstrued both arguments in a similar fashion, yes. Anyway your analogy is completely flawed and doesn't even mirror anything i claimed. I just said just because a few stone age tribes do something doesn't mean thats the best way to organise society or that their bizarre social practices are a legitimate reason for flaunting your junk around town. It means that you can't present your opinions as universal descriptions of proper human behaviour. An exception remains an exception whatever the proportions. 33 I think each local community should decide for itself whether it wants to be exposed to nudity. Jail time though? That's just freaking excessive. 34 I think each local community should decide for itself whether it wants to be exposed to nudity. Jail time though? That's just freaking excessive. Here weather in practice is against nudity most of the year so it won't be an option for majority even if was encouraged and rewarded. Also I see nudity mostly as a cultural thingy - occasionally approved, sometimes not for whatever irrational reason. I have no objection to nudity but for practical reasons some clothing seems justified, carrying keys, phone, wallet etc. What I general don't like is that small local communities start dictating laws or rules. While it can be the pinnacle of democracy it also means that virtually any inbred, narrow minded bunch can create an insane, radically different environment. Obviously this bunch can be 'right' but I tend to believe that if they were then the majority would follow suite soon enough. Also this only applies to reasonably homogenous cultures. Whether nudity should be allowed or not I don't know but be feel to try and get back to modesty if it causes problems. It's unlikely to kill or injure anyone and as GW16 said jailing nudists isn't really an option - small fine and if someone is really willing to pay excessive mount of money just to feel the wind all the better for taxpayers in general. G 35 So ... why are the USA and muslim countries so terrified of their own god given body? Nothing terrifying about them, but what's wrong with a sense of propriety and decency? Also, why does Europe and the rest of the decadant world seem to fixate on the USA and those things which we do differently? Just how far do we have to run? We were founded by people fleeing Europe and wanting to do things differently, and here we are centuries later still having to try to escape, it seems. 36 It seems sad to judge decency by having to hide something that everyone has anyway. I know it is a slippery slope argument, but imo it is no more nonsensical that burkahs or enforce veils. 37 anyone claiming to be Welsh is either an irrelevant savage or a contemptible deviant. Isn't that pretty much a truism? 38 Didn't Dylan Thomas claim to be Welsh...? Oh, I see. Or do I? 39 We were founded by people fleeing Europe and wanting to do things differently, and here we are centuries later still having to try to escape, it seems. The leadership of the 1776 revolt was largely comprised of colonial aristocrats well-rooted in the territory they inhabited, possessing American ancestors going back a century or more, and they aimed largely to maintain the practices which they had developed in that time against the encroachment of metropolitan authority with the imperial reforms that followed the Seven Years War and the Indian wars of the 1760s. So the more appropriate narrative to invoke would be one of resistance against reform, rather than of its defence-through-exodus. Granted, that may be over-thinking things given we're talking about the public acceptability of hingin yer boabby oot, as my girlfriend insisted on describing it, but whatever. Isn't that pretty much a truism? 40 That's okay. It's not like you've ever over-thought/analyzed a topic before.
